NEED URGENT HELP

3 STEPS TO EASE YOUR DENTAL EMERGENCY

1

Stay calm and prepare

Don’t panic! Most dental emergencies can be stabilised quickly. If you can, gently rinse your mouth with warm water, control any bleeding with gauze, and avoid chewing on the affected side.

We’re here to guide you over the phone and provide prompt treatment to get you out of pain.

2

Book your emergency visit

Contact us as soon as symptoms begin. Let us know if you’re dealing with pain, swelling, bleeding, or a broken tooth so we can prioritise your appointment.

We’ll also give you immediate advice on what to do before you arrive.

3

Receive expert care

Once you’re here, our team will examine the area, relieve your pain, and explain the best treatment options in clear terms.

Most emergency visits are just $199, and we’ll always discuss any additional costs before proceeding so you stay fully informed and in control.

Not sure if it’s a dental emergency?

If you’re unsure whether what you’re feeling counts as an emergency, these signs usually mean you should seek urgent care:

  • Ongoing or severe toothache
  • Swelling in the face, gums, or jaw
  • A cracked, broken, or chipped tooth
  • A tooth that’s been knocked loose or out
  • Bleeding that won’t stop
  • Sharp edges cutting your mouth or causing pain
  • Signs of infection, such as pus or a persistent bad taste

If something doesn’t feel right, it’s always best to seek prompt dental treatment.

“I had a dental emergency and booked an appointment here. The doctors who treated me were incredibly kind and worked very professionally. They quickly identified the issue and managed to solve it efficiently. I’ll need to come back for a follow-up just in case, but overall the experience was fantastic. “

Emergency dental FAQs

What is a dental emergency?

A dental emergency is any situation where you’re in pain, have a broken or knocked-out tooth, swelling, bleeding, or an infection. Basically, if it’s uncomfortable or stopping you from eating, talking, or smiling, it’s an emergency, and we can help.

What to do if a tooth is knocked out

The faster you act, the better the chance of saving the tooth. Always hold the tooth by the crown (the part you can normally see) and avoid touching the root. Give it a gentle rinse in water or milk to keep it clean. If you can, place it back in the tooth socket to keep it moist. If that’s not possible, pop it in a container of milk or saliva, or wrap it in a clean cloth. Then call us straight away.

What happens if you leave a broken tooth without treatment?

A broken tooth might not seem urgent at first, but leaving it untreated can cause ongoing dental pain, sensitivity, and infection. Sharp edges can cut your tongue or cheek, and exposed nerves may lead to bigger issues that require more complex and costly dental treatment later on. It’s always best to have a broken tooth treated so you can smile (and eat!) without worry.

What should I do if my child has a dental emergency?

Call us straight away so we can give you step-by-step advice and get your child seen quickly. If a baby tooth or adult tooth has come out, keep it clean, pop it in water or milk if you can, and bring it with you. We’ll take care of the rest.

Can a dental abscess heal without treatment?

Unfortunately, no. A dental abscess won’t clear up on its own; it usually gets worse without treatment and can lead to a more widespread infection. The good news? We can relieve the pain and treat the infection fast and affordably, so you don’t have to put up with it. If necessary, we may also prescribe antibiotics as part of your treatment.

What should I do if I have a severe toothache?

Give us a call right away so we can book your emergency appointment. While you’re waiting, rinse with warm salty water, pop on a cold compress, and take over-the-counter pain relief if you need. Avoid hot, cold, or sweet foods as they can make the pain flare up.

How can I manage pain before my emergency dental treatment?

Keep it simple: rinse with salty water, use a cold compress for swelling, take pain relief, and stick to soft foods. Most importantly, don’t delay. Once you’re in the chair, we’ll get you out of pain quickly.

Do you open on weekends / after hours?

Both of our clinics are open till 7pm Monday to Thursdays. Our Mt Gravatt clinic is also Saturdays
