Emergency dental care
We offer flexible options like after-school visits, weekend appointments, sibling bookings and fast emergency care, so your family can get dental treatment when it suits you.
A little preparation can make your child’s dental appointment feel calm, familiar and positive. These simple tips help build confidence and ensure the visit goes smoothly:
Encourage them to bring a comfort toy
Avoid describing the visit as scary or painful
Explain what will happen in simple, reassuring language
Book appointments earlier in the day when children are less tired
These small steps can make a big difference in helping your child feel safe and supported.
HAPPY VISITS = HEALTHY HABITS
What to expect at their first dental visit
1
Settle in
It all starts with getting comfy. The chair goes up, the sunnies go on, and we gently talk your child through what’s next so they feel relaxed and ready.
2
Smile check
We examine your child’s teeth, gums and jaw development, looking for any early signs of concern. We encourage you to ask our dentists questions so you feel confident about your child’s oral health.
3
Shine bright
If appropriate, we finish with a professional clean to keep their smile healthy. You’ll also receive clear guidance on next steps and helpful tips to support good habits at home.
Free kids’ dental care with Medicare
The Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) is a Medicare program that makes essential paediatric dental care more affordable for families. It provides up to $1,132 in dental benefits over two calendar years for children and adolescents aged 2 to 17.
What’s covered?
If you are eligible for the Child Dental Benefits Schedule, we will bulk bill all general dental appointments such as comprehensive exams and cleans, filling and fissure sealants. For major dental procedures such as root canals we can do partial cover. Unfortunately cosmetic work such as orthodontics and veneers are not covered.
Who’s eligible?
Children aged 2 to 17 may be eligible if their family receives Family Tax Benefit Part A or certain other government benefits.
Medicare will notify you directly if your child qualifies, or you can check your status anytime through Medicare Online, the Express Plus Medicare app or by calling Medicare.
Will I have to pay anything?
At Fix Dental, we bulk bill all eligible general dental procedures directly to Medicare. This means eligible children receive dental treatment with no out-of-pocket costs.
Can I use CDBS for emergencies?
Yes. If your child is eligible and has available funds, CDBS can be used for emergency dental treatment such as pain, swelling, broken teeth or infections.
Big on care. Small on cost.
At Fix Dental, all kids’ dental services come with a fixed fee. From check-ups and cleans to fillings and extractions, all of our general dental treatments are just $199.
Every child deserves high quality dental care when they need it. With bulk-billing for eligible children, interest-free payment plans, and our membership program, we make treatment affordable and accessible for every family.
Free dental under Medicare

Emergency dental care for kids
From tumbles to toothaches, we’re here to help your child feel better fast. Fix Dental provides emergency kids’ dental care with same-day appointments (where possible), gentle treatment to ease their nerves, and fixed pricing so parents are never caught off guard.
If your child needs urgent care, call us or book online now.
As soon as that first baby tooth pops through or by their first birthday. The earlier we see them, the sooner we can help keep those tiny teeth in tip-top shape.
How can I help my child feel comfortable before their appointment?
From an early age, talk positively to your kids about visiting the dentist. Let them know the dentist is where teeth get shiny and strong. Bring along a favourite toy or book, and we’ll do the rest. Our team are pros at turning nerves into smiles.
Do you offer sedation for anxious children?
We do. If your child is extra nervous, we can chat about gentle sedation options such as happy gas, or, when required, general anaesthesia. Our caring team ensures every patient feels calm, comfortable, and most importantly, safe.
How often should kids see the dentist?
Just like adults, a check-up every six months is the sweet spot. Regular dental visits can prevent decay, help track growth and development, and support lifelong oral health so your child grows up with a healthy smile that lasts a lifetime.
If my child gets a cavity in their baby teeth, should it be filled?
Yes. Baby teeth might not last forever, but they play a big role in helping children eat, speak, and keep space for adult teeth. Treating cavities early prevents pain and infection and helps set the stage for strong and healthy permanent teeth as they grow.
What should I do if my child has a toothache?
Rinse their mouth with warm salty water and gently clean around the sore tooth. A cold compress on the outside of the cheek can ease discomfort. Then, make an appointment with Fix Dental as soon as possible for treatment.
Can thumb sucking be harmful to my child’s teeth?
Thumb or dummy sucking is common and usually harmless in infants and toddlers. But if it continues once adult teeth start coming through, it can affect how the teeth and jaw develop. If you’re worried, our general dentists can check your child’s bite and suggest gentle ways to help them break the habit.
