During your consultation, we take the time to fully assess your dental and medical history, examine your mouth, and check the health of your jawbone. Scans and X-rays are performed when necessary to ensure there’s enough bone to support the dental implant treatment and plan the most precise placement.
Implant jawbone placement
Depending on your needs, we carefully and strategically place 2-4 implants per arch to act as anchor points for your dentures. Over a 3-6 month healing period, these implants gradually bond with your natural bone, creating a stable and durable base that mimics the roots of natural teeth.
This ensures your dentures have the support they need for long-term comfort and function.
Attachment of locator abutments
Once the locator implants have fully integrated with your jawbone, special low-profile locator abutments are securely attached. This locator attachment system allows your dentures to sit in place and hold their position.
Denture fitting
Your implant over dentures are placed onto the locator attachments. Thanks to the system’s innovative self-aligning and pivoting design, the dentures can be easily inserted and removed while maintaining a snug, reliable fit.

How many implants will I need?
Most patients need two to four locator implants, depending on their bone levels and the stability they want. Our dentist will recommend the right number after assessing your mouth.
What is the recovery time?
Healing is typically quick, with most people returning to normal activities within a day or two. Full integration of the implants happens over a few months, but your denture can often be used much sooner.
How long do locator implants last?
Maintaining good oral hygiene and scheduling regular dental check-ups are key influencing factors for your implants’ lifetime. Locator implants are designed to last up to 10-20 years, although locator attachment systems may need to be replaced due to general wear and tear.
Is the procedure painful?
At Fix Dental, your patient satisfaction and comfort is our top priority. Our locator implant procedures are all performed under local anaesthetic to avoid pain and discomfort. After the procedure, it’s normal to experience some mild swelling and discomfort, however, most of our patients recover quickly.
How long does the procedure take?
The implant itself is completed in just one session, although healing and integration can take a few months before we attach the denture base. During this time, the patient will wear a conventional denture over the top of the implants.
How do I clean and care for locator implants?
You’ll need to remove your dentures daily for cleaning and brush gently around the locator abutments. Regular dental check-ups help ensure everything stays healthy and working properly. Our friendly team will provide you with all the after-care information you need after your procedure.
Will my smile look different?
Not at all — except for being more confident. Locator implants will help secure your dentures so they stay more firmly in place, giving you a natural-looking smile without the worry of slipping or movement. You’ll enjoy the same appearance, but with added comfort and stability.
Can locator implants work with my existing dentures?
In many cases, yes. If your current dentures are in good condition, we may be able to adapt them to fit your new implants. If not, we will discuss making a new denture.
Are dentures included in the locator implant treatment?
